About Summer School
Summer School will cover the topics shown below:
1) Global Energy security;
The increase of oil’s importance after the Second World War and emergence of the global energy market.
Oil crisis of the 1970s bring energy security to the agenda. Increasing geopolitical importance of the oil-rich
countries (for example Near East). Energy security in the center of the current geopolitical struggle.
2) The current crisis in oil market and its impact on petrostates (Azerbaijan case);
Various reasons of the current crisis (the US-Russian confrontation; shale oil and gas revolution; the rapid
development of alternative energy sources and the increase of their share in energy consumption);
Oil-dependent countries: experience and prospects.
3) Post-oil era: prognosis and vision;
The Stone Age did not end for lack of stone, and the Oil Age will end long before the world runs out of oil.”
What awaits oil exporters in the post-oil era, and in which directions do/should they prepare for?
The lectures are combined with excursions to the regions and international companies, which allow for
discussions from a more practical perspective. Language courses and a guided tour to Sheki/Gabala
complement the learning experience in order to provide students with a deep insight into the regional lifestyle.
Students of business administration, economy, engineering, international relations and other related fields
The aim of the course to study the current crisis in oil market and its impact on petrostates and to help the
students develop a vision for the future.
EUR 650: Studying materials, lectures, excursions, languages courses (Azeri/Russian), meal three times a day,
transportation during the program (transfer from/to airport included)

04.07.2017 – for Azeri students
Students enrolled at German universities can apply for a scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
as part of the Go East Summer Program. The scholarship covers the costs of stay, travel and attendance fee.
